Preaching the Word of God
Over the years sitting in the pews, I have heard some wonderful homilies — and, on occasion, some not so wonderful. Now that I have the honor of preaching as a deacon at Mass, I try my best to break open the Scriptures and let the Holy Spirit guide me in nourishing God’s people. I am ...

Date Nights Can Strengthen Relationships
Several years ago, I heard a wise Catholic priest tell a group of married couples, “Marriage is a Sacrament, parenting is not. Focus on the Sacrament first, and the children and the family will all fall into place.” That thought has stayed with me. Yes, there are times in the lives of...

Hope Does Not Disappoint: Join the Jubilee Year Mass at the Cathedral
The Jubilee Year is a sacred time of renewal, grace, and joy proclaimed by the Church every 25 years. For 2025, Pope Francis has announced the Jubilee Year under the theme “Spes Non Confundit” (Hope Does Not Disappoint), taken from St. Paul’s Letter to the Romans (Rom 5:5). In his papal bull of proclamation, the Holy Father invites all Catholics to embrace this year as a time of profound encounter with God’s mercy and hope, symbolized by the opening of Holy Doors in cathedrals and churches around the world. The Jubilee Year offers an invitation to...

Give It a Rest!
We are all given special talents and gifts from God. One of my special gifts is the ability to rest. I can sit down and fall asleep faster than anyone. At night, my head barely touches the pillow, and I am at rest. I see this as a sign of God’s love. Being able to rest allows us to receive God and receiving Him gives us true rest. As St. Augustine wrote, “You have made us for Yourself, O Lord, and our hearts are restless until they rest in You.” We all need time to rest in our lives. Even God rested on the seventh day of creation. That is why Sunday sho...

When does Christmas Actually End? Here are the Different Views.
How many days is Christmas? When should you finally take those lights off the porch or remove the tree? On this day, the liturgy celebrated is the feast of the Nativity of the Lord. Priests wear white vestments on...
