Catholic Charities is honoring its 100th Anniversary with a celebration on May 14 at Mystic Aquarium. With all the challenges of the pandemic over the past two years, we are long overdue to commemorate such a momentous occasion.
Catholic Charities can trace Its beginning to a meeting of the New London branch of the Connecticut Council of Catholic Women in May 1921. Today, as we celebrate our 100th anniversary, Catholic Charities continues to serve those in need. We provide programs and services to not only fulfill the immediate basic needs of our clients such as food, clothing, prescriptions, and children’s needs but also provide rental and utility assistance, pregnancy education and support, job readiness, SNAP assistance, and financial education.
In the past, Catholic Charities would hold a more formal gala. This was one of our largest fundraising events of the year. However, as we reflect on our deep history and charitable past of helping individuals and families in need, it was important that this year’s celebration should bring both individuals and families together to commemorate such a special occasion.
What a great way to honor Catholic Charities’ mission, “To respond to Christ’s call to care for those in need by providing compassionate social services for individuals and families living in New London, Windham, Tolland and Middlesex counties.”
