The Stations of the Cross began as the practice of pious pilgrims to Jerusalem who would retrace the final journey of Jesus Christ to Calvary.
Later, for the many who wanted to pass along the same route, but could not make the trip to Jerusalem, a practice developed that eventually took the form of the fourteen stations currently found in almost every church.
Prayerful meditation through the Stations of the Cross is especially common during Lent and on Fridays throughout the year, in commemoration of Christ's Crucifixion on Good Friday.
Check with your parish for times and locations of stations near you.
For those wishing to remain socially distanced we created a resource page with video, audio, and text versions of the Stations of the Cross.
There you will find a video version of the Stations of the Cross, led by Fr. Peter Langevin from the Cathedral of Saint Patrick in Norwich, as well as a version of The Stations of the Cross, borrowed from the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, recorded for you by the Office of Faith Events, entitled Overcoming Racism.
In addition, we have included links to text of other versions provided by the USCCB-

The Catholic Family Services Office and Worldwide Marriage Encounter are sponsoring a virtual Stations of the Cross for Couples on Friday, March 26 at 7 P.M. Join us as we accompany Jesus on His way to Calvary in praying the stations together. The everyday struggles couples face in their relationships can, at times, be a heavy cross to carry, but when we journey with Jesus to Calvary as a couple, we find hope and strength to enrich our relationships. We all need images of hope in living out our vocation to married life, and Jesus offers us those images in His passion. The stations will be led by two married couples. Each will offer a brief reflection and insight on how we can see our relationship with our spouse mirrored in Jesus. Registration is required. Call Mary-Jo McLaughlin, at 860-848-2237, Ext 312 or email mmclaughlin@norwichdiocese.net
A link will be sent to you prior to the event.
