Diocesan Vocation Prayer

Heavenly Father,
Through all generations,
You have chosen men to serve You
by sharing in the Holy Priesthood of Christ,
Your Son.

We beg You to call men from our diocese
to serve as priests at the altar,
and to send Your Holy Spirit
to help them discern Your call.
Give them understanding to know Your will
and courage to follow it.

Pour out, too, Your grace
upon women from our parishes
to serve You in religious life,
formed after the model of our Blessed Mother.

We ask this through our eternal High Priest and King,
Jesus Christ, our Lord.
Amen.

Archbishop Coyne has asked that this prayer be prayed at the end of every Mass in the diocese.

Fr. Jeffrey Ellis, Diocesan Vocation Director

She points to Jesus.” Continuing his catechesis on the relationship between the Holy Spirit and the Church as Jesus’ bride, Pope Francis invited his listeners to reflect on the Mother of God’s presence and special role among Jesus’ apostles....

November, the Month We Pray for the Souls of the Dead
When I was very small, my mother’s sister Patricia died at a very young age. I don’t remember as I was still an infant when her death occurred. What I do remember is that for many years after, my whole family would drive to my grandparents’ church and join with them and my aunts and uncles and cousins on the Saturday closest to “Aunt Pat’s” anniversary for a memorial Mass. It was usually in the lower church, the organist and cantor would sing the Requiem Mass parts, and the priest would wear black (later on white). This would al...
