Guest Speaker: Lisa Irish, MEd, MA, BCC

As All Souls' Day approaches, we are reminded of the profound importance of remembering and honoring our loved ones who have gone before us. It is a time when our hearts are tender, and our need for comfort is great.

In response to the deep and ongoing need for compassionate support during times of loss, the Catholic Community of the Good Shepherd is offering a special evening of healing and hope. On Sunday, November 3rd, we invite you to join us for "Hope in the Land of Loss - Trust Your Grieving Heart", an inspiring 90-minute program led by Lisa Irish, a respected Catholic author, chaplain, and retreat leader. Lisa brings years of experience ministering to those in grief, and her insights offer comfort not only for those mourning recent losses but also for those still carrying the weight of long-ago grief.

This program will provide a safe space to explore your grief, acknowledge its sacredness, and receive spiritual guidance that offers hope in the midst of pain. Whether your loss is fresh or from years past, whether you’re grieving a loved one or navigating non-death losses, this evening will gently guide you toward healing and peace.

After the program, there will be light refreshments and an opportunity to purchase Lisa’s insightful book, Grieving: The Sacred Art: Hope in the Land of Loss.

We invite you to come, and to bring anyone in your life who could benefit from this time of shared reflection and comfort.

“Lisa Irish shows us that grief is our ally in the Land of Loss, and indeed, her book becomes our ally as well. Her insightful study and creative descriptions of grieving tap into our own experiences of loss. The roadmap is wise, but sensitive – grounded in hope – and reminds us to rest in God’s healing love.”

January 1: A Holy Day of Obligation
The Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God On January 1, Catholics honor Mary’s unique role in salvation history with the Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God, a Holy Day of Obligation. This feast underscores Mary’s title as Theotokos, or “God-bearer,” a doctrine officially declared at the Council of Ephesus in 431. At the close of the council, the faithful filled the streets, joyfully proclaiming, “Praised be the Theotokos!” Mary’s title as “Mother of God” is rooted in the Incarnation, where, as St. Paul teaches: “...

Hope Does Not Disappoint: Join the Jubilee Year Mass at the Cathedral
The Jubilee Year is a sacred time of renewal, grace, and joy proclaimed by the Church every 25 years. For 2025, Pope Francis has announced the Jubilee Year under the theme “Spes Non Confundit” (Hope Does Not Disappoint), taken from St. Paul’s Letter to the Romans (Rom 5:5). In his papal bull of proclamation, the Holy Father invites all Catholics to embrace this year as a time of profound encounter with God’s mercy and hope, symbolized by the opening of Holy Doors in cathedrals and churches around the world. The Jubilee Year offers an invitation to...
