A Busy Year for the Communications Ministry - Your Help is Needed

Dear Faithful Readers . . .

Once a year we appeal to your generosity to help defray the production costs of our print, online, and email newsletter editions of the Four County Catholic. This year is no exception. Please consider a donation to the Communication Ministry -

Thank You

Thank you in advance for responding to our annual appeal. We are grateful for your generous support, prayers, and encouragement. Your help makes it possible for us to bring the good news from around the diocese to you with the latest technological advances.

Four County Catholic

This year we embarked upon the task of transforming the Four County Catholic, which launched in 1989, from a monthly newspaper into a bimonthly magazine. Along with the physical appearance the nature of the content changed from news from a Catholic perspective to living the Gospel message. With that change came an expanded circulation reaching every registered Catholic household in the Diocese.

Weekly Newsletter

The one advancement that continues to grow is The Four County Catholic Weekly Newsletter. So far thousands of you have signed up to receive this free weekly newsletter. If you aren’t yet receiving it then please visit NorwichDiocese.org/Newsletter, sign up, and while you are at it sign up friends and family members who you think may be interested.

While it remains the flagship communication vehicle of the Diocese, for many, it is a lifeline…a way to stay connected to the Diocese and their faith.  Each issue features national and local news, as well as a mix of articles to inspire you and your family.

A Busy Year

The Office of Communications ministry is the public’s window into the Diocese, spanning Middlesex, New London, Tolland, and Windham counties in Connecticut, in addition to Fishers Island, New York. Disseminating pertinent information throughout this region is one of the key focuses of the Communications Office.

Thank you to the many of you who informed us how much you appreciated the work we did in keeping you informed, especially during the pandemic. This is one of the responsibilities of the Diocesan Communications Office.

Live Streaming

One of the ways we continue to keep you informed is through live streaming of the Masses and special events happening at the Cathedral of Saint Patrick. In the last 12 months, this office has live-streamed and archived on this website more than 60 Masses, pontifical events, and concerts.

Visit NorwichDiocese.org/Masses for a schedule.

Social Media

Our Social Media presence has also increased with the addition of regular Facebook postings. We hope to have regular postings to Instagram and Twitter in the near future. Please let us know what other Social Media Apps you prefer as well as how we are doing overall by emailing us at Communications@NorwichDiocese.net.

In addition to all of the above, we continue to expand our online presence on the NorwichDiocese.org website.

We would also appreciate you keeping us in your prayers.

Whether it arrives in your mailbox or your inbox, it is our pleasure to continue to deliver the news from around the Diocese to you and your family.

January 1: A Holy Day of Obligation
The Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God On January 1, Catholics honor Mary’s unique role in salvation history with the Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God, a Holy Day of Obligation. This feast underscores Mary’s title as Theotokos, or “God-bearer,” a doctrine officially declared at the Council of Ephesus in 431. At the close of the council, the faithful filled the streets, joyfully proclaiming, “Praised be the Theotokos!” Mary’s title as “Mother of God” is rooted in the Incarnation, where, as St. Paul teaches: “...
