Saint of the Month: Saint Elizabeth of the Trinity
The Church celebrates the feast day of Saint Elizabeth of the Trinity on November 8. “Let yourself be loved”, Sister Elizabeth of the Trinity wrote to her Prioress, Mother Germaine. This French Discalced Carmelite Sister was gifted to the Church for the years of 1880-1906. By her hands during her years as a religious, God wrote of His Trinitarian love for us. Sister Elizabeth died of Addison’s disease three years after professing final vows. Since then, she was beatified by St. John Paul II in 1984 and canonized by Pope Francis on October 16, 2016.
Saint Elizabeth considered the call to “let yourself be loved” everyone’s vocation; a first step into relationship with God. She is a modern reminder of the surest foundation of our lives - Love Himself! Little by little, fearless surrender to communion with the Heart of God places us in the position of being loved. According to Saint Elizabeth, there is no better place to be.
Saint Elizabeth is truly an example of a life lived for Love alone. May we adopt this call into our own hearts and live each day totally dependent on Our Father’s love. Let yourself be loved.
Saint Elizabeth of the Trinity, pray for us and help us receive Love.
