Vocation Boom

Vocation Boom is a group dedicated to supporting the priesthood as a life’s vocation and mission. It grew out of a vision which began to take shape in the heart of Jerry Usher while he spent time in priestly formation from 1989 to 1995. In 2009, shortly before Pope Benedict XVI proclaimed The Year for Priests, he gathered a team of colleagues and created the Vocation Boom website, which launched on September 14 of that year – The Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross. The website contains audio archives of the roadshow, social networking opportunities, links to religious orders and diocesan organizations, and various other resources.

In Eastern Connecticut, we are blessed to be home to the motherhouse of the Sisters of Charity of Our Lady, Mother of the Church. Few Catholics growing up in eastern Connecticut have not been affected in some way by these holy women. "The Mount", as Mount St. Mary's Seminary is commonly referred, is the nation's second oldest Catholic seminary, and for the 2010-2011 academic year, the largest seminary in North America. Located an hour from Baltimore in rural Emmitsburg, MD, it is the alma mater of a number of priests in the Diocese of Norwich.
